History:

Alumni and others who shared the ICS's interest in exploring Christian worldview at the highest academic levels looked for ways to support the ICS's work in the United States. They organized conferences in various locations. They also provided a means to donate to ICS through the AACS Foundation in Grand Rapids, MI, which could issue US receipts for tax purposes. Eventually that Foundation was renamed Friends of ICS. Its board of directors currently consists of
  • Mark Davies, (Christian Reformed Church Pastor, ICS Board Chair), Lynden, WA
  • Bill Garfield, (Business Manager, ICS alumnus), Livonia, MI, Vice President
  • Case Hoogendoorn, (Lawyer), Chicago, IL, Legal Council
  • Johannes Witte, (Business), Grand Rapids, MI
  • Henry Luttikhuizen, (Calvin College Professor, ICS alumnus), Hudsonville, MI
  • Carol Veldman Rudie, (Writer), Minneapolis, MN, Secretary
  • John Suk, (ICS President)

The Friends of ICS office is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is operated by Elizabeth Greidanus.

Projects:

  1. Fund raising: Friends of ICS has continued to raise funds to support students and research at ICS. Since 2004 this amounted to $200,000.
  2. The Greystone Study: In 2003 this research group conducted a "Study of the Perceptions and Opportunities of ICS in the United States." It made a number of recommendations that ICS faculty and staff are implementing.
  3. The Advocates project started in 2004, as one response to the Greystone Study, to increase the visibility of ICS in the United States. A network of local supporters who will pass on information about ICS is developing.
  4. Conferences: A Worldview Conference for the Chicago area in the fall of 2007 is in the planning stage.
  5. Communication: The office mails the ICS Perspective, receipts, and other material to Friends of ICS supporters.
